The SAP error message MEEXTFU028 indicates that there is a discrepancy between the release information of a purchase requisition (PR) and the overall release status of that requisition. This typically occurs in the context of the release strategy for purchase requisitions, where the system expects consistent release information across different levels or stages of the requisition.
Cause:
- Inconsistent Release Status: The purchase requisition has been released at one level but not at another, leading to a mismatch in the release information.
- Manual Changes: If manual changes were made to the purchase requisition after it was released, it could lead to inconsistencies.
- Multiple Release Strategies: If the requisition is subject to multiple release strategies, and one of them has not been completed, it can cause this error.
- System Configuration Issues: Incorrect configuration of the release strategy in the SAP system can also lead to this error.
Solution:
- Check Release Status: Review the release status of the purchase requisition in question. Ensure that all necessary approvals have been completed.
- Release the Requisition: If the requisition is partially released, complete the release process for all required levels.
- Review Changes: If any changes were made to the requisition after it was released, revert those changes or re-release the requisition.
- Consult with the Release Strategy: Ensure that the release strategy is correctly configured in the system. This may involve checking the configuration settings in the SPRO transaction.
- Use Transaction ME28: You can use transaction ME28 (Release Purchase Requisitions) to check and manage the release status of the requisition.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
