  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

You have changed the update mode to Delta Direct. Make sure that a
significantly higher number of entries are generated in the BW delta
queue (see <DS:TRAN.RSA7>Maintenance of the BW Delta Queue</>).

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

It is sometimes necessary to load data into the BW more frequently than
once a day (but not more often than once every hour).
Note the following special features for the setup of data sources for
    the BW:
After the setup run in the OLTP system, at least one successful
initialization request must exist for each data source before document
changes are made. Otherwise, the delta information will be irrevocably
    lost.
    <ZH>Important Note</>:
Before transporting customizing requests to change the update mode in
other systems, <ZH>check</> that all V3 update entries for the function
module MCEX_UPDATE_&V1&* in these systems have the status "Ok" or
"Update Completed". You can check this in the target system in the
    update overview (transaction SM13).
Otherwise, the old delta information is no longer transferred
automatically into the BW after the update mode has been changed.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message MCEX162 - Update mode changed directly from delta -> Note long text ?

The SAP error message MCEX162 indicates that there has been a change in the update mode of a data source from "delta" to another mode, which is not allowed. This typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) when dealing with data extraction from SAP ERP or other sources.

    Cause:

The error is usually caused by one of the following scenarios:

    1. Configuration Changes: The update mode of a data source was manually changed in the SAP BW system, which is not permitted if the data source is already set up for delta extraction.
    2. Inconsistent Settings: There may be inconsistencies in the settings of the data source, such as the delta queue not being properly configured or the data source not being activated correctly.
    3. Data Source Activation: If the data source was activated in a way that conflicts with its current update mode, this error can occur.

    Solution:

To resolve the MCEX162 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Data Source Settings:

      • Go to the Data Source in the SAP BW system (transaction code RSA1).
      • Verify the update mode settings. Ensure that the data source is set to the correct mode (e.g., delta) and that it has not been changed inadvertently.
    2. Re-activate the Data Source:

      • If the settings are correct, try re-activating the data source. This can sometimes resolve inconsistencies.
      • In RSA1, navigate to the data source, right-click, and select "Activate".
    3. Check Delta Queue:

      • Ensure that the delta queue is functioning correctly. You can check the delta queue using transaction code RSA7.
      • If there are issues with the delta queue, you may need to process or clear it.
    4. Review Change Logs:

      • Check the change logs for any recent changes made to the data source configuration that might have led to this error.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or notes related to the specific data source and its update modes for any additional guidance.
    6. Contact SAP Support:

      • If the issue persists after trying the above steps, consider reaching out to SAP support for further assistance.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: RSA1 (Data Warehousing Workbench), RSA7 (Delta Queue Monitor).
