The SAP error message M7602, which states "Stock population has been formed," typically occurs in the context of inventory management and stock movements. This message indicates that a stock population (a group of stock items) has already been created for a particular transaction or process, and further actions cannot be performed until the existing stock population is resolved.
Cause:
- Existing Stock Population: The error usually arises when there is an attempt to create or modify stock data (like a goods movement or inventory count) while a stock population is already in place for the same material or location.
- Incomplete Transactions: If a previous transaction involving stock movements was not completed or was interrupted, it may leave the system in a state where it believes a stock population is still active.
- System Locking: Sometimes, system locks or inconsistencies in the database can lead to this error, especially in multi-user environments.
Solution:
- Check Existing Stock Populations: Use transaction codes like MB52 (List Warehouse Stocks on Hand) or MMBE (Stock Overview) to check if there are existing stock populations for the material in question.
- Complete or Cancel Previous Transactions: If there are incomplete transactions, try to complete or reverse them. This may involve using transaction codes like MB1A (Goods Withdrawal), MB1B (Transfer Posting), or MB1C (Other Goods Receipts).
- Clear Locks: If the issue is due to system locks, you may need to wait for the locks to be released or contact your SAP Basis team to clear them.
- Consult Logs: Check the application logs (transaction SLG1) for any additional error messages or information that could provide more context on the issue.
- Reprocess the Stock Population: If applicable, you may need to reprocess the stock population using the appropriate transaction or program designed for that purpose.
Related Information:
If the problem persists after trying the above solutions, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or a technical consultant who can provide more in-depth assistance.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
