What causes this issue?

If a total shelf life is entered in the material master record, the
system will assume that the date entered in the goods receipt is
the date of production of the material. It then calculates an expiration
date from the date of production plus shelf life in days.
If no total shelf life is entered in the material master record, the
system will assume that the date entered in the goods receipt is
the expiration date of the material.

System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
