Message text: No cost estimate exists for sales order & &
The system is attempting to determine the target costs on the basis of a
sales order cost estimate.
If you are using a valuated sales order stock, you can do the following
on the basis of these target costs:
Valuate work in process (WIP) at target costs
Valuate confirmed scrap quantities
Determine variances between the target costs and the actual costs
In the WIP calculation process, the system then attempts to valuate the
work in process on the basis of a sales order cost estimate if you have
specified in the <LS>valuation variant for work in process and scrap</>
that valuation should be made on the basis of the current standard cost
estimate and if a valuation strategy is defined in the requirements
class that causes the standard price of the valuated sales order stock
to be determined on the basis of the sales order cost estimate.
When it calculates the variances, the system attempts to valuate the
confirmed scrap quantities on the basis of a sales order cost estimate
if you have specified in the <LS>valuation variant for work in process
and scrap</> that the valuation should be made on the basis of the
current standard cost estimate and if a valuation strategy is defined in
the requirements class that causes the standard price of the valuated
sales order stock to be calculated on the basis of the sales order cost
estimate. Another requirement is that the <LS>Scrap</> indicator be set
in the variance key.
When it calculates the variances, the system attempts to valuate the
total variance on the basis of the sales order cost estimate if it has
been specified in the target cost version that the target costs are to
be calculated on the basis of a current standard cost estimate and if a
valuation strategy has been defined in the requirements class that
causes the standard price of the valuated sales order stock to be
calculated on the basis of the sales order cost estimate.
The system cannot find a sales order cost estimate for the sales order.
This could be caused by any of the following reasons:
The cost estimate does not exist.
The cost estimate is not valid on the appropriate date.
Work in process and variances are calculated by period. The cost
estimate must be valid on the last day of the period.
The cost estimate does not have an itemization.
Note that you can only valuate work in process and scrap at target costs
using a product cost estimate with quantity structure. A unit cost
estimate cannot be used to valuate work in process and scrap.
The system cannot calculate any target costs.
Check the following in Customizing:
The valuation variant for work in process and scrap
The target cost version
The requirements class
If necessary, change the settings in these Customizing steps, or create
a preliminary cost estimate for the sales order item.
For information on the calculation of standard prices with a valuated
sales order stock, see the documentation <LS>Cost Object Controlling ->
Product Cost by Sales Order</>.

KV172
- No cost estimate exists for sales order & & ?The SAP error message KV172 "No cost estimate exists for sales order & &" typically occurs when you are trying to perform a transaction related to a sales order, but the system cannot find a cost estimate associated with that sales order. This can happen for several reasons, and here are some common causes, solutions, and related information:
Causes:
- Missing Cost Estimate: The most straightforward reason is that a cost estimate has not been created for the sales order item.
- Incorrect Sales Order Status: The sales order may be in a status that does not allow for cost estimates to be generated or accessed.
- Configuration Issues: There may be configuration issues in the costing variant or the valuation class that prevent the cost estimate from being generated.
- Master Data Issues: The material master or the BOM (Bill of Materials) may not be set up correctly, leading to the inability to generate a cost estimate.
- Costing Run Not Executed: If the costing run has not been executed for the relevant period, the cost estimates may not be available.
Solutions:
Create a Cost Estimate:
- Navigate to the cost estimate transaction (e.g., CK11N for creating a cost estimate) and create a cost estimate for the relevant material or sales order.
Check Sales Order Status:
- Ensure that the sales order is in a status that allows for cost estimates. You may need to change the status or check if the order is blocked for some reason.
Review Configuration:
- Check the configuration settings for costing variants and valuation classes in the SAP system. Ensure that they are set up correctly to allow for cost estimates.
Verify Master Data:
- Review the material master data and BOM to ensure that all necessary information is present and correct. Make sure that the costing views are maintained.
Execute Costing Run:
- If applicable, execute the costing run for the relevant period to ensure that cost estimates are generated and available for use.
Consult Documentation:
- Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific details on how to create cost estimates and troubleshoot related issues.
Related Information:
If the issue persists after trying the above solutions, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or a functional consultant who specializes in controlling (CO) or sales and distribution (SD) modules.
