  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: KV - Variance Analysis for Cost Centers and Cost Objects

  • Message number: 173

  • Message text: No cost estimate exists for project &

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

The system is attempting to determine the target costs on the basis of a
    cost estimate for the project.
If you are using a valuated project stock, you can do the following on
the basis of these target costs:
Valuate work in process (WIP) at target costs
    Valuate confirmed scrap quantities
Determine variances between the target costs and the actual costs
In the WIP calculation process, the system then attempts to valuate the
work in process on the basis of a project cost estimate if you have
specified in the <LS>valuation variant for work in process and scrap</>
that valuation should be made on the basis of the current standard cost
estimate and if a valuation strategy is defined in the requirements
class that causes the standard price of the valuated project stock to be
determined on the basis of the project cost estimate.
When it calculates the variances, the system attempts to valuate the
confirmed scrap quantities on the basis of a project cost estimate if
you have specified in the <LS>valuation variant for work in process and
scrap</> that the valuation should be made on the basis of the current
standard cost estimate and if a valuation strategy is defined in the
requirements class that causes the standard price of the valuated
project stock to be calculated on the basis of the project cost e
stimate. Another requirement is that the <LS>Scrap</> indicator be set
    in the variance key.
When it calculates the variances, the system attempts to valuate the
total variance on the basis of the project cost estimate if it has been
specified in the target cost version that the target costs are to be
calculated on the basis of a current standard cost estimate and if a
valuation strategy has been defined in the requirements class that
causes the standard price of the valuated project stock to be calculated
on the basis of the project cost estimate.
The system cannot find a project cost estimate for the project. This
could be caused by any of the following reasons:
The cost estimate does not exist.
The cost estimate is not valid on the appropriate date.
The cost estimate does not have an itemization.
Note that you can only valuate work in process and scrap at target costs
using a product cost estimate with quantity structure. A unit cost
estimate cannot be used to valuate work in process and scrap.

    System Response

The system cannot calculate any target costs.

    How to fix this error?

    Check the following in Customizing:
The valuation variant for work in process and scrap
    The target cost version
    The requirements class
If necessary, change the settings in these Customizing steps, or create
a cost estimate for the project.

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

The SAP error message KV173 ("No cost estimate exists for project &") typically occurs when you are trying to access or process cost-related information for a project that does not have a cost estimate created or available in the system. This can happen in various SAP modules, particularly in Project System (PS) or Controlling (CO).

    Cause:

    1. No Cost Estimate Created: The most common reason for this error is that a cost estimate has not been created for the specified project.
    2. Cost Estimate Not Released: The cost estimate may have been created but not released, making it unavailable for further processing.
    3. Incorrect Project Number: The project number you are trying to access may be incorrect or does not exist in the system.
    4. Cost Estimate Validity: The cost estimate may be outside the validity period or may have been deleted.
    5. Authorization Issues: There may be authorization issues preventing you from accessing the cost estimate.

    Solution:

    1. Create a Cost Estimate: If no cost estimate exists, you need to create one. This can typically be done using transaction codes like CK11N (Create Cost Estimate) or CK40N (Mass Change of Cost Estimates).
    2. Release the Cost Estimate: If a cost estimate exists but is not released, you can release it using transaction CK24 (Release Cost Estimate).
    3. Verify Project Number: Double-check the project number you are using to ensure it is correct and exists in the system.
    4. Check Validity: Ensure that the cost estimate is valid for the period you are trying to access it. You can check the validity dates in the cost estimate details.
    5. Authorization Check: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to view or process cost estimates for the project. You may need to contact your SAP security team if you suspect authorization issues.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as:

      • CK11N: Create Cost Estimate
      • CK24: Release Cost Estimate
      • CJ20N: Project Builder (to view project details)
      • CJI3: Display Actual Cost Line Items (to check costs)
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help files for detailed steps on creating and managing cost estimates in your specific SAP version.
