  • Message number: 231

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

You want to delete the control indicator valid from &V1&. This is not
possible because Profit Center Accounting was activated from &V1&. The
deletion makes sense only if PCA was activated in an entry immediately
preceding the one in question. In this case, deleting the indicator as
of &V1& leaves the previous indicator valid and PCA remains active.

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

Either do not delete the entry, or proceed as follows:
    Deactivate PCA as of &V1& (leave controlling area maintenance;
deactivate in the PCA configuration menu).
Or, activate PCA in a entry defined for a date immediately beforehand
    (provided this exists).

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message KT231 - It is not possible to delete from & (profit center accounting is active) ?

The SAP error message KT231 indicates that a deletion operation cannot be performed because Profit Center Accounting (PCA) is active for the specified object. This typically occurs when you attempt to delete a profit center or related master data that is still being used in the system.

    Cause:

    1. Active Profit Center Accounting: The profit center you are trying to delete is still linked to various transactions or master data in the system.
    2. Dependencies: There may be existing postings or allocations that reference the profit center, making it impossible to delete.
    3. Configuration Settings: The system settings may prevent deletion if certain conditions are not met.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Dependencies:

      • Use transaction codes like KSB1 (Report: Actual Line Items) or KOB1 (Report: Orders) to check if there are any postings related to the profit center you are trying to delete.
      • Review any allocations, assessments, or distributions that may be using the profit center.
    2. Clear Open Items:

      • If there are open items or transactions associated with the profit center, you will need to clear or reverse them before attempting to delete the profit center.
    3. Change Status:

      • If you cannot delete the profit center due to existing transactions, consider changing its status to "inactive" instead of deleting it. This can often be done in the master data maintenance transaction (e.g., KE52 for profit centers).
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or consult with your SAP support team for specific guidelines on handling profit centers and related data.
    5. Authorization:

      • Ensure you have the necessary authorizations to perform deletion operations in the system.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as:
      • KE51: Create Profit Center
      • KE52: Change Profit Center
      • KE53: Display Profit Center
    • SAP Notes: Check for any SAP Notes related to error KT231 for additional insights or patches that may address the issue.
    • Profit Center Accounting Configuration: Review the configuration settings for Profit Center Accounting in your SAP system to ensure they align with your business processes.
