  • What causes this issue?

    The method of apportionment you selected apportions values calculated
    in <DS:GLOS.results_analysis>results analysis</> to the
    <DS:GLOS.line_ID>line IDs</> in proportion to actual costs incurred up
    to the current period for each line ID.
    In the present case, the actual costs are zero, which means that method
    of apportionment cannot be used.
    The pair (&V1&,&V2&) means (line ID category, results analysis form).
    The line ID categories are:
    K = costs
    P = costs of commissions and complaints
    The results analysis forms are:
    B = work in process
    R = reserves for unrealized costs
    P = reserves for commissions and complaints

    The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message KJ231 - Actual cost = 0. Cannot use method of apportionment (&,&) ?

    The SAP error message KJ231, which states "Actual cost = 0. Cannot use method of apportionment (&,&)," typically occurs in the context of cost accounting, particularly when dealing with internal orders, cost centers, or projects in SAP. This error indicates that the system is trying to apply a method of apportionment (such as distribution or assessment) to a cost object that has no actual costs associated with it.

    Cause:

    1. No Actual Costs: The primary cause of this error is that the cost object (e.g., internal order, cost center) does not have any actual costs recorded against it. This can happen if no expenses have been posted to the cost object or if the costs have been cleared or reversed.

    2. Incorrect Configuration: The method of apportionment being used may not be configured correctly, or it may not be applicable to the cost object in question.

    3. Timing Issues: If the costs are expected to be posted but have not yet been recorded in the system, this error may occur.

    Solution:

    1. Check Actual Costs: Verify if there are any actual costs posted to the cost object. You can do this by checking the relevant reports (e.g., cost center reports, internal order reports) to see if any costs have been recorded.

    2. Post Costs: If there are no actual costs, you may need to post the relevant costs to the cost object. This could involve posting invoices, expenses, or other relevant transactions.

    3. Review Apportionment Method: Ensure that the method of apportionment you are trying to use is appropriate for the cost object. Check the configuration settings in the SAP system to ensure that the method is set up correctly.

    4. Timing: If you are in a period where costs are expected to be posted but have not yet been recorded, you may need to wait until the costs are posted before attempting to use the apportionment method.

    5. Consult Documentation: Review SAP documentation or consult with your SAP support team for specific guidance on the configuration and usage of the apportionment methods in your system.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may want to use transaction codes like KOB1 (Order: Actual Line Items) or KSB1 (Cost Centers: Actual Line Items) to review the actual costs associated with the cost object.
    • Configuration: Check the configuration settings in the controlling module (CO) for the methods of apportionment under the relevant settings for cost centers or internal orders.
    • SAP Notes: Look for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide additional troubleshooting steps.
