  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message KE122 - Document number range is full for record type & ?

The SAP error message KE122 indicates that the document number range for a specific record type in the Controlling (CO) module is full. This typically occurs when the system has exhausted all available document numbers for a particular type of record, preventing the creation of new entries.

    Cause:

    1. Exhausted Number Range: The number range defined for the specific record type has been completely used up. This can happen if the number range is too small or if there has been an unusually high volume of transactions.
    2. Configuration Issues: The number range may not be properly configured, or the settings may not allow for sufficient numbers to be generated.
    3. Archiving: If old records are not archived, the system may continue to use the same number range without freeing up numbers.

    Solution:

    1. Extend the Number Range:

      • Go to the transaction code SNRO (Number Range Objects).
      • Find the relevant number range object for the record type indicated in the error message.
      • Check the current number range settings and extend the range if necessary. You can increase the upper limit of the number range to allow for more document numbers.
    2. Check Configuration:

      • Ensure that the configuration for the number range is set up correctly in the relevant customizing settings. This can be done through the transaction code SPRO.
      • Navigate to Controlling > General Controlling > Document Number Ranges and verify the settings.
    3. Archiving Old Data:

      • If applicable, consider archiving old documents to free up space in the number range. This can help in managing the number range more effectively.
    4. Monitor Usage:

      • Regularly monitor the usage of document numbers to anticipate when the number range might be exhausted again in the future.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • Refer to SAP documentation or consult with your SAP Basis or CO module team for specific guidance related to your system's configuration.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:
      • SNRO: To manage number ranges.
      • SPRO: To access the SAP Customizing Implementation Guide.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that might address specific issues related to number ranges in your version of SAP.
    • User Roles: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to make changes to number ranges and configurations.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the KE122 error and prevent it from occurring in the future.
