Message text: Order has not been released and cannot therefore act as preceding order
You want to create a new maintenance order as a follow-on order for an
existing order and have therefore selected the checkbox <LS>Create
Follow-On Order</>. A maintenance order that is to be used as a
preceding order for a follow-on order must have the system status <ZK>
Released</>. The maintenance order that you have entered in the <LS>
Order</> field has not been released and cannot, therefore, be used as a
preceding order for the new order.
The system does not create the new maintenance order.
In the <LS>Order</> field, enter the order number of a preceding order
that has been released, change the system status of the preceding order
that you entered to <ZK>Released</>, or deselect the <LS>Create
Follow-On Order</> checkbox.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

- Order has not been released and cannot therefore act as preceding order ?The SAP error message IW544 ("Order has not been released and cannot therefore act as preceding order") typically occurs in the context of production or maintenance orders when you attempt to use an order that has not been released as a predecessor for another order. This can happen in various scenarios, such as when trying to create a follow-up order or when attempting to link orders in a production process.
Cause:
- Order Status: The order you are trying to use as a preceding order is still in a "created" status and has not been released. In SAP, orders must be released before they can be processed or linked to other orders.

- Configuration Issues: There may be configuration settings in the system that prevent the order from being released or recognized as a preceding order.
Solution:
Release the Order:
- Navigate to the order in question using transaction code IW32 (Change Order) or IW31 (Create Order).
- Check the status of the order. If it is not released, you can release it by selecting the "Release" button or using the appropriate menu option.
- Ensure that all necessary prerequisites for releasing the order are met (e.g., all required data is filled in).
Check Authorizations:
- Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to release the order. If you do not have the required authorizations, contact your SAP security administrator to obtain the necessary access.
Review Configuration:
- If the issue persists, consult with your SAP configuration team to ensure that the order types and statuses are correctly configured to allow for the release and linking of orders.
Check for Dependencies:
- Ensure that there are no dependencies or prerequisites that need to be fulfilled before the order can be released.
