The SAP error message ICL_DI078 indicates that a change to a specific text (denoted by &1) is not allowed, and only an extension of that text is permitted. This error typically occurs in the context of SAP's Industry Solution for Insurance (ICL) when dealing with text elements associated with insurance contracts, claims, or other related documents.

    Cause:

The error arises when a user attempts to modify an existing text entry instead of extending it. In SAP, certain text fields are designed to be immutable in their original form to maintain data integrity and historical accuracy. Therefore, the system restricts direct modifications to these texts.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you should follow these steps:

    1. Check the Text Entry: Identify the text entry that you are trying to change. Make sure you understand the context and the reason for the change.

    2. Use the Extension Functionality: Instead of trying to modify the existing text, use the extension functionality provided by SAP. This typically involves:

      • Navigating to the text management screen where the text is maintained.
      • Selecting the option to create an extension or add a new entry related to the existing text.
      • Entering the new information or changes as an extension rather than modifying the original text.
    3. Consult Documentation: If you are unsure how to extend the text, refer to the SAP documentation or help resources specific to the module you are working with. This can provide guidance on how to properly manage text entries.

    4. User Permissions: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to create extensions. If you do not have the required access, contact your SAP administrator.

    5. Testing: After making the extension, test the changes to ensure that they meet your requirements and that the error does not reoccur.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that might provide additional context or solutions for this error. SAP Notes can often contain patches or updates that address specific issues.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with the transaction codes related to text management in your specific SAP module. Common transaction codes include SE61 (for text management) and others specific to your application.
    • Training and Support: If you frequently encounter this error, consider seeking additional training on text management within SAP or consult with your SAP support team for best practices.
