  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message IAOM021 - Dependent entries cannot be copied ?

The SAP error message IAOM021: Dependent entries cannot be copied typically occurs in the context of Asset Accounting (FI-AA) when you are trying to copy asset master data or related entries, and there are dependencies that prevent the operation from being completed.

    Cause:

The error usually arises due to one of the following reasons:

    1. Dependent Objects: The asset you are trying to copy has dependent objects (like transactions, allocations, or other linked assets) that cannot be copied in the same operation.
    2. Configuration Issues: There may be configuration settings in the asset accounting module that restrict copying of certain asset types or classes.
    3. Data Integrity: The system may detect that copying the asset would violate data integrity rules, such as maintaining unique identifiers or relationships between assets.

    Solution:

To resolve the IAOM021 error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Check Dependencies: Review the asset you are trying to copy and identify any dependent entries. You may need to manually create or adjust these entries before attempting to copy the asset again.

    2. Use Different Methods: Instead of copying the asset directly, consider creating a new asset and manually entering the necessary details. This can sometimes bypass the restrictions that lead to the error.

    3. Review Configuration: Check the configuration settings in the Asset Accounting module to ensure that copying is allowed for the asset type you are working with. You may need to consult with your SAP administrator or functional consultant.

    4. Transaction Codes: Use transaction codes like AS01 (Create Asset), AS02 (Change Asset), or AS03 (Display Asset) to manage assets directly, rather than using copy functions.

    5. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on asset copying and dependencies.

    6. SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that might address this specific error or provide patches or updates that could resolve the issue.
