  • What causes this issue?

In the current report group there is a report with &V2& columns. If the
number of columns is too large, it can lead to techincal problems. The
maximum number of columns is therefore, limited to &V1&.

    System Response

The report group was not generated.

    How to fix this error?

Check to make sure your report really should have so many columns. You
may have used a set in the report columns which has a great deal of
value entries, but in the report, you'd like to output only a few
columns with totals values. In this case, you need to set a suitable
level of detail for the affected column characteristic.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message GR252 - Report contains more than &1 columns ?

The SAP error message GR252, which states "Report contains more than &1 columns," typically occurs when a report or output exceeds the maximum number of columns allowed in the SAP system. This limit is often set to ensure that reports are manageable and can be displayed correctly without performance issues.

    Cause:

    1. Exceeding Column Limit: The report you are trying to generate or display has more columns than the system allows. The maximum number of columns can vary depending on the specific SAP module or configuration.
    2. Configuration Settings: The system may have specific settings that limit the number of columns for reports, which can be adjusted by an administrator.
    3. Data Selection: The selection criteria or the data being pulled into the report may inadvertently include too many fields.

    Solution:

    1. Reduce the Number of Columns: Modify the report to include fewer columns. This can be done by:

      • Removing unnecessary fields from the report layout.
      • Using selection criteria to limit the data being pulled.
      • Grouping data or summarizing it to reduce the number of columns.
    2. Check Report Configuration: If you have access, review the report configuration settings to see if there are options to adjust the maximum number of columns allowed.

    3. Use Alternative Reporting Tools: If the report is too complex for the standard reporting tools, consider using alternative tools like SAP Query, SAP BusinessObjects, or SAP Analytics Cloud, which may handle larger datasets more effectively.

    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidelines on the maximum number of columns allowed for the type of report you are generating.

    5. Contact SAP Support: If you are unable to resolve the issue, consider reaching out to SAP support for assistance, especially if this is a recurring problem or if you believe it may be related to a system bug.

    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide updates on limitations.
    • User Permissions: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to modify reports or access the configuration settings.
    • Performance Considerations: Keep in mind that even if you can increase the number of columns, doing so may impact the performance of the report generation and the usability of the output.
