  • What causes this issue?

More than nine value variables are used in your rollup sets. The
background interface, however, only allows you to transfer nine value
variables. The default values valid at the time of execution are used
for all other variables. The changed variables are generated with a
higher priority than the default values in the background job report.

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message GL208 - & set variables used, but only 9 are transferred in the background ?

The SAP error message GL208 typically indicates that there is a mismatch in the number of variables being used in a report or a data transfer process. Specifically, it suggests that while 9 variables are expected to be transferred in the background, there may be an issue with the configuration or the data being passed.

    Cause:

    1. Mismatch in Variable Count: The error arises when the number of variables defined in the report or data transfer process does not match the number of variables being passed in the background.
    2. Incorrect Configuration: There may be an issue with the configuration of the report or the data source, leading to a discrepancy in the expected and actual variables.
    3. Data Source Issues: The data source may not be providing the expected number of variables due to changes in the underlying data structure or issues with the data extraction process.
    4. Authorization Issues: Sometimes, authorization problems can prevent certain variables from being accessed or transferred.

    Solution:

    1. Check Variable Configuration: Review the configuration of the report or data transfer process to ensure that the correct number of variables is defined and that they match the expected count.
    2. Review Data Source: Ensure that the data source is correctly set up and that it is providing the expected variables. Check for any changes in the data structure that may have occurred.
    3. Debugging: Use debugging tools in SAP to trace the data flow and identify where the mismatch is occurring. This can help pinpoint the exact cause of the issue.
    4. Authorization Check: Verify that the user has the necessary authorizations to access all the required variables. If there are restrictions, adjust the authorizations accordingly.
    5. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or support notes related to the specific transaction or report to see if there are known issues or additional configuration steps required.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Depending on the context, you may need to use transaction codes like SE38 (ABAP Editor) or SE11 (Data Dictionary) to check the report or data structure.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any updates or patches that may address this specific error message.
    • Community Forums: SAP Community forums can be a valuable resource for finding similar issues faced by other users and potential solutions.
