  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

You started indirect activity allocation with posting. This may call up
data records already maintained by user &V1& in planning. These records
are locked in order to avoid duplicate entries, deletions, or valuation
of activity quantities with obsolete prices.

    System Response

You cannot start indirect activity allocation with posting at this
    time.

    How to fix this error?

Please wait for user &V1& to end maintenance, or contact the user.
    &NOTE&
The current lock concept applies to all Controlling objects used in the
cycles for indirect activity allocation in planning for "Planning
Activities", "Planning Secondary Costs", and "Planning
Activity-Dependent Secondary Costs". For example, if cost centers and
business processes appear as senders or receivers, all these objects
are locked. Selective locks are not possible at this time due to
technical limitations (data overruns in the lock server).
Also, indirect activity allocation in actual locks planning because the
actual calculations draw on the plan prices for valuating allocated
    activity quantities.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message GA524 - Indirect activity allocation not allowed with posting; planning locked. ?

The SAP error message GA524, which states "Indirect activity allocation not allowed with posting; planning locked," typically occurs in the context of controlling (CO) when you attempt to perform an indirect activity allocation while the planning data is locked. This can happen in various scenarios, such as during month-end closing or when certain settings in the system prevent changes to planning data.

    Cause:

    1. Planning Lock: The planning data for the cost center or internal order is locked, which means that no changes can be made to the planning data while the lock is in place.
    2. Posting in Progress: If there are ongoing postings or if the system is in a state where it is processing transactions, it may prevent indirect activity allocations.
    3. Configuration Settings: Certain configuration settings in the controlling module may restrict indirect activity allocations under specific conditions.

    Solution:

    1. Check Planning Lock: Verify if the planning data is indeed locked. You can do this by checking the planning status in the relevant cost center or internal order. If it is locked, you may need to unlock it or wait until the lock is released.
    2. Review Posting Status: Ensure that there are no ongoing postings that could be causing the lock. If there are, you may need to wait until those postings are completed.
    3. Adjust Configuration: If the issue persists, review the configuration settings in the controlling module to ensure that indirect activity allocations are allowed under the current circumstances.
    4. Consult with SAP Basis or CO Team: If you are unable to resolve the issue, it may be necessary to consult with your SAP Basis team or the controlling team to understand if there are any system-wide settings or locks that need to be addressed.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may want to use transaction codes like KP26 (Activity Type Planning) or KSU5 (Indirect Activity Allocation) to check the status of planning and allocations.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide additional guidance on handling planning locks and indirect activity allocations.
    • Documentation: Review SAP documentation related to controlling and activity allocations for a deeper understanding of how these processes work and any restrictions that may apply.
