  • What causes this issue?

You are carrying the balance forward for dimension Y1 in fiscal year
&V1&. Fiscal year &V1& is specified as the <LS>Effective From Fiscal
Year for Transfer to SAP S/4HANA</> in global system settings (in
transaction CXB3). In this case, the system uses a special logic when
    carrying the balance forward:
Data from the prior year are read from the source dimension (see below).
In SAP S/4HANA consolidation, there are no hierarchies of consolidation
groups, but the consolidation groups are lists of consolidation units
that are independent of each other. During the balance carryforward, the
system transforms group-dependent postings (on account assignment level
    30) from the prior year to the flat group structures. To do this, the
system transfers group-dependent postings from the consolidation groups
lower in the hierarchy (in the prior year) to the higher-level
    consolidation groups.
The source dimension is the dimension for which you set the <LS>Source
for Transfer to SAP S/4HANA</> indicator in the definition of the
dimension (in transaction CX1K). However, the system does not contain a
dimension for which the indicator has been set. For this reason, the
system cannot carry the balance forward for dimension Y1 in fiscal year
    &V1&.
In SAP S/4HANA consolidation, only <ZH>one</> dimension is allowed; this
dimension must have the characteristic value Y1.

    System Response

The system terminates the balance carryforward with an error message.

    How to fix this error?

In the definition of dimensions (in transaction CX1K), set the <LS>
Source for Transfer to SAP S/4HANA</> indicator for <ZH>one</>
    characteristic value.

    Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message G01171 - No dimension exists as the source for transfer to SAP S/4HANA ?

The SAP error message G01171, which states "No dimension exists as the source for transfer to SAP S/4HANA," typically occurs during the data transfer process from SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (BPC) to SAP S/4HANA. This error indicates that the system is unable to find a corresponding dimension in the source system that is required for the transfer.

    Cause:

    1. Missing Dimension: The most common cause of this error is that the dimension required for the data transfer does not exist in the source system. This could be due to incorrect configuration or missing master data.
    2. Configuration Issues: There may be issues with the configuration settings in either BPC or S/4HANA that prevent the system from recognizing the necessary dimensions.
    3. Data Mapping Issues: If the mapping between the source and target dimensions is not correctly defined, the system may not be able to find the required dimension.
    4. Version Mismatch: If there are different versions of the software or if the systems are not properly aligned, it may lead to this error.

    Solution:

    1. Check Dimension Configuration: Verify that the required dimensions exist in the source system (BPC). Ensure that all necessary dimensions are properly configured and populated with data.
    2. Review Data Mapping: Check the mapping settings between BPC and S/4HANA. Ensure that the dimensions in BPC are correctly mapped to the corresponding dimensions in S/4HANA.
    3. Update Master Data: If any dimensions are missing, you may need to create or update the master data in the source system to include the necessary dimensions.
    4. Check Transport Settings: Ensure that the transport settings for data transfer are correctly configured. This includes checking the transport connection and ensuring that the correct data packages are being used.
    5. Consult Documentation: Refer to the SAP documentation for BPC and S/4HANA for specific guidelines on data transfer and dimension management.
    6. System Logs: Check the system logs for any additional error messages or warnings that may provide more context about the issue.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages (message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.

An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
