G01170 - No dimension exists as the source for transfer to SAP S/4HANA

SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: G01 - SAP Consolidation

  • Message number: 170

  • Message text: No dimension exists as the source for transfer to SAP S/4HANA

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

In SAP S/4HANA consolidation, only <ZH>one</> dimension is allowed; this
dimension must have the characteristic value Y1.
When copying between dimensions for transfer to SAP S/4HANA, the system
uses characteristic value Y1 for the <LS>target dimension </> as the
    destination for the copy.
The source of the copy is the dimension for which you set the <LS>Source
for Transfer to SAP S/4HANA</> indicator in the definition of the
dimension (in transaction CX1K). However, the system does not contain a
dimension for which the indicator has been set. This means that the
system cannot execute the copy function from the source dimension to
    dimension Y1.

    System Response

The system terminates the copy function with an error message.

    How to fix this error?

In the definition of dimensions (in transaction CX1K), set the <LS>
Source for Transfer to SAP S/4HANA</> indicator for <ZH>one</>
    characteristic value.

    Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message G01170 - No dimension exists as the source for transfer to SAP S/4HANA ?

The SAP error message G01170, which states "No dimension exists as the source for transfer to SAP S/4HANA," typically occurs during the data transfer process from SAP Business Suite (like SAP ECC) to SAP S/4HANA. This error indicates that the system is unable to find a valid dimension that is required for the transfer of data.

    Cause:

    1. Missing Configuration: The error often arises when the necessary configuration for the dimensions in the source system (SAP ECC) is not set up correctly or is missing.
    2. Data Model Changes: SAP S/4HANA has a different data model compared to SAP ECC. If the dimensions that are expected in S/4HANA do not exist in the source system, this error can occur.
    3. Inconsistent Data: There may be inconsistencies in the data that prevent the system from identifying the correct dimensions for the transfer.
    4. Migration Cockpit Issues: If you are using the SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit, there may be issues with the mapping of dimensions during the migration process.

    Solution:

    1. Check Configuration: Ensure that the necessary dimensions are configured correctly in the source system. This may involve checking the settings in the relevant modules (e.g., Finance, Controlling).
    2. Review Migration Settings: If you are using the Migration Cockpit, review the migration settings and mappings to ensure that all required dimensions are included and correctly mapped.
    3. Data Validation: Validate the data in the source system to ensure that it is complete and consistent. Look for any missing or incorrect entries that could affect the transfer.
    4. Use SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error. SAP frequently releases updates and fixes that can resolve known issues.
    5. Consult Documentation: Review the official SAP documentation for the migration process to ensure that all steps are being followed correctly.
    6. Engage SAP Support: If the issue persists, consider reaching out to SAP Support for assistance. They can provide more specific guidance based on your system configuration and the details of the error.

    Related Information:

    • SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit: This tool is used for migrating data from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA. Understanding how it works and its requirements can help in troubleshooting.
    • Data Model Differences: Familiarize yourself with the differences in data models between SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA, as this knowledge can help in identifying missing dimensions.
    • SAP Community: Engaging with the SAP Community can provide insights from other users who may have encountered similar issues.

By addressing the configuration and data issues, you should be able to resolve the G01170 error and successfully transfer data to SAP S/4HANA.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages (message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.

An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
