Message text: Enter a pick-up location for the rental car
The System requires that you enter a location at which you require the
rental car. If you want to return the rental car to the same location
as the pick up location, you only need to enter the pick up location
When you enter the required data and request a list of all the car
rental pick-up points available for the criteria entered, specifically
in the location required (push button: Query/car rental availability),
the data is transferred to the connected reservation System (for
example, Amadeus or Sabre) and a database query take places. The car
rental pick up/drop off locations are stored in the reservation in such
a way that it is necessary to enter a location for the car rental
service.
Car rental locations are not always stored under their actual location
in the Amadeus and Sabre reservation systems. Quite often, providers
have the option to assign themselves to the location under which they
want to be listed in the reservation system. This means that the
location assigned often depends totally upon the car rental providers
own management decisions.
The possible locations, from which this assignment can be made are
limited to the around 14 000 locations defined by IATA, these locations
are, by definition, called IATA locations. Generally these locations
are locations with airports (IATA is the main organization for all
major airlines in the world), but they can also include locations that
do not have an airport or train station. Car rental locations in large
cities are almost always assigned to the IATA location that applies to
their actual location, however if the pick up/drop off points are
located in smaller locations that are not IATA locations, these are
then generally assigned to the next closest IATA location.
Searching for a car rental pick up/drop off point using its actual
location is only supported by the Amadeus or Sabre Systems if the
location is assigned to an actual IATA location. This means it is
important to enter a valid location. You can either enter the three
character IATA abbreviation for the location (for example, LON for
London), or the abbreviation for an airport (for example, LHR for
London Heathrow). If several locations have the same name, the system
asks you to confirm which area you require. If, for example, you enter
the location 'London', you may be looking for the small town in
Canada, or the capital city of Great Britain.
If you do not know the complete name of the location, you can also
enter part of the name followed by an asterisk. Entering London*, for
example, will provide you with a list of all locations beginning with
London, including London (England), London (Canada) and Londonderry
(Northern Ireland).
If you have to search for car rental pick up/drop off points in
locations that are not IATA locations on a regular basis, your System
should be set up so that the intuitive entry of this location is
possible. Example: The location WALLDORF, which is not an IATA
location, is required on a regular basis. In this case, your System
should be set up so that if someone enters this location, a search for
car rental locations belonging to the IATA location HDB (Heidelberg)
is started automatically. If your System is missing the option to
directly enter such locations, you should contact your System
admistrators.
Enter the location where you want to pick up the rental car.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
