    Procedure for System Administrators

When you maintain a batch record, the system locks entries in the
    following internal tables:
    Table MCHP (batch record data)
Table DRAW (data of corresponding document info record)
The MCHP entry for one of the batch records you selected is unlocked,
the DRAW entry of the corresponding document info record &V1&, however,
    is locked by user &V2&.
Check whether user &V2& still processes the batch record and delete the
lock entry for table DRAW if he or she does not process it anymore.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message EBR042 - System error while locking batch record (notify system administrator) ?

The SAP error message EBR042, which states "System error while locking batch record (notify system administrator)," typically indicates an issue related to the locking mechanism in the SAP system when trying to access or modify a batch record. This error can occur in various scenarios, such as during batch processing, inventory management, or when performing transactions that involve batch records.

    Causes:

    1. Database Locking Issues: The error may arise due to a failure in acquiring a lock on the batch record in the database. This can happen if another process is holding the lock or if there is a deadlock situation.
    2. System Performance Issues: High system load or performance issues can lead to timeouts or failures in the locking mechanism.
    3. Configuration Issues: Incorrect configuration in the batch management settings or related modules can lead to locking problems.
    4. Transport Issues: If there have been recent transports or changes in the system, they may have affected the locking behavior.
    5. User Authorization: Lack of proper authorization for the user trying to access the batch record can also lead to this error.

    Solutions:

    1. Check Lock Entries: Use transaction code SM12 to check for existing lock entries. If you find locks that are no longer needed, you can delete them (ensure you have the necessary authorizations).
    2. System Performance Monitoring: Monitor system performance using transaction codes like ST22 (dump analysis) and SM21 (system log) to identify any underlying issues that may be affecting the locking mechanism.
    3. Review Configuration: Check the configuration settings related to batch management and ensure they are set up correctly.
    4. User Authorizations: Verify that the user has the necessary authorizations to access and modify the batch records.
    5. Restart the Transaction: Sometimes, simply restarting the transaction or logging out and back into the system can resolve temporary locking issues.
    6. Contact System Administrator: If the issue persists, it is advisable to notify the system administrator or SAP support for further investigation. They may need to analyze the system logs and perform deeper diagnostics.
