What causes this issue?

You did not specify a product ID when creating the product. As a
result, the system tried to determine a product ID internally.
However, a product ID could not be determined because automatic number
assignment has not been set up for this product type or, in the case of
a data transfer, an external system was specified as the original
system of the product.

System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

How to fix this error?

If the problem occurred during a data transfer and an external system
was specified as the original system of the product, make sure that the
product ID is passed by the external system.
If the product is created online or the current CRM/EBP System is
specified as the original system of the product, ask your system
administrator to set up the internal number assignment appropriately.

Use the Customizing transaction <DS:TRAN.COMCPRTYPENRO>COMCPRTYPENRO
</> to assign a reference product type for number assignment to the
product type concerned.
