  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CN727 - Material & only for individual requirements (check entry) ?

The SAP error message CN727 ("Material & only for individual requirements (check entry)") typically occurs in the context of project management and material requirements planning (MRP) within SAP. This error indicates that the material you are trying to use is set up for individual requirements, but the system is expecting a different type of requirement (like collective requirements).

    Cause:

    1. Material Master Settings: The material in question is configured in the material master record to be used only for individual requirements. This means that it is not allowed to be used in scenarios where collective requirements are expected.
    2. Project Settings: The project or network activity you are working with may be set up to expect collective requirements, which conflicts with the individual requirement setting of the material.
    3. Incorrect Configuration: There may be a mismatch between the configuration of the material and the requirements of the project or network.

    Solution:

    1. Check Material Master:

      • Go to the material master record (transaction code MM03) and check the MRP views. Look for the "MRP Type" and "Lot Size" settings. Ensure that the material is set up correctly for the intended use.
      • If the material should be used for collective requirements, consider changing the MRP type to one that allows for collective planning (e.g., MRP type PD).
    2. Review Project Settings:

      • Check the project or network settings to see if they are configured to use individual requirements. If the project is set up for collective requirements, you may need to adjust the settings or use a different material.
    3. Adjust Requirement Type:

      • If the material is indeed meant to be used for individual requirements, ensure that the project or network activity is set up to accept individual requirements. This may involve changing the settings in the project definition or network activity.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or consult with your SAP support team for specific guidance on how to configure materials and projects to avoid this error.

    Related Information:

    • MRP Types: Understanding the different MRP types (e.g., PD for MRP, VB for consumption-based planning) is crucial for configuring materials correctly.
    • Project Management in SAP: Familiarize yourself with how project management works in SAP, including the settings for networks and activities.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this error or provide additional guidance on configuration.

If the issue persists after checking these areas, it may be beneficial to engage with your SAP support team or a consultant who specializes in SAP project management and material planning.
