SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: CK - Product Costing Messages

  • Message number: 723

  • Message text: Costing of cycle & does not converge

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

Iterative costing of the materials in cycle &v1& does not converge at
all or does not converge within 500 iteration steps.
This error occurs when the quantity structure specifies that the output
of a given amount of material A requires the same or nearly the same
quantity of A as input (such as 1 kg or 0.995 kg of A to produce 1 kg of
    A) in addition to other items (with a positive value).

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

Check the BOMs of the materials in cycle &v1&. You can display these
materials in the material overview of costing.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CK723 - Costing of cycle & does not converge ?

The SAP error message CK723, which states "Costing of cycle & does not converge," typically occurs during the costing run in the SAP system, particularly when dealing with product costing in the Controlling (CO) module. This error indicates that the system is unable to determine a valid cost estimate for a product due to issues in the costing cycle.

    Causes of CK723 Error

    1. Circular Dependencies: The costing cycle may have circular dependencies, where the costs of one material depend on another material that, in turn, depends on the first material.

    2. Incorrect Master Data: Issues with the master data of materials, such as incorrect cost components, missing cost estimates, or incorrect valuation classes.

    3. Costing Variants: The costing variant used may not be set up correctly, leading to issues in how costs are calculated.

    4. Missing or Incorrect Activity Types: If the activity types used in the costing run are not defined properly or are missing, it can lead to convergence issues.

    5. Inconsistent Data: Inconsistencies in the data related to the materials being costed, such as missing BOMs (Bill of Materials) or routing information.

    Solutions to CK723 Error

    1. Check Costing Cycle: Review the costing cycle for any circular dependencies. Ensure that the materials involved do not reference each other in a way that creates a loop.

    2. Review Master Data: Verify the master data for the materials involved. Ensure that all necessary cost estimates, BOMs, and routings are correctly defined and available.

    3. Validate Costing Variant: Check the settings of the costing variant being used. Ensure that it is configured correctly and that all necessary parameters are set.

    4. Examine Activity Types: Ensure that all activity types used in the costing process are defined and correctly assigned to the relevant cost centers.

    5. Run Consistency Checks: Use transaction codes like CK11N (Create Cost Estimate with Quantity Structure) or CK40N (Change Cost Estimate) to run consistency checks and identify any issues.

    6. Analyze Logs: Review the logs generated during the costing run for additional details on what might be causing the convergence issue.

    7. Consult SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address known issues related to the CK723 error.

    8. Test with Simplified Data: If possible, try to replicate the costing run with a simplified version of the data to isolate the issue.

    Related Information

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as CK11N, CK40N, and CK24 (for displaying cost estimates).
    • Costing Variants: Understand the configuration of costing variants in the system, as they play a crucial role in how costs are calculated.
    • SAP Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for detailed explanations of costing processes and error messages.
    • Community Forums: Engage with SAP community forums or support channels for additional insights and solutions from other users who may have encountered similar issues.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the CK723 error in your SAP system.
