The SAP error message C2346 indicates that a component (identified by &1) has been deleted because the associated material (identified by &2) is locked due to its inclusion in a discontinuation group (identified by &3). This typically occurs in the context of material management and production planning within SAP.
Cause:
- Material Locking: The material is locked, which can happen if it is part of a discontinuation group. This means that the material is no longer available for use in production or sales, and any components associated with it may also be affected.
- Discontinuation Group: The discontinuation group is a way to manage materials that are being phased out. When a material is assigned to a discontinuation group, it may be restricted from further transactions, leading to the locking of related components.
Solution:
- Unlock the Material: If the material needs to be used again, you may need to unlock it. This can typically be done by removing it from the discontinuation group or changing its status in the material master record.
- Check Discontinuation Group Settings: Review the settings of the discontinuation group to understand its implications on the materials assigned to it. You may need to consult with your materials management team or SAP administrator.
- Review Component Assignment: Ensure that the components are correctly assigned to the materials and that there are no inconsistencies in the BOM (Bill of Materials) or routing that could lead to this error.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific steps on how to manage materials in discontinuation groups and how to handle locked materials.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
