Message number: 187
Message text: The selection element &1 includes too many rows
In structure element &V1&, the characteristic &V2& is restricted to
&V3& values. This number is very large and may reach a technical
limit. If values are continued to be added during generation of the
query, there could be a termination Brain A125 because the associated
statement will exceed the fixed size of 28K.
Create an external hierarchy for the characteristic &V2& and combine the
&V3& values into one hierarchy node. Then work with the nodes instead
of the &V3& single values.
As an alternative, you can define an associated navigation attribute
using &V2&.

BRAIN187
- The selection element &1 includes too many rows ?The SAP error message BRAIN187, which states "The selection element &1 includes too many rows," typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP BI (Business Intelligence) when a query or report is trying to process a selection that exceeds the allowed limit of rows. This can happen when the selection criteria defined in a query or report result in a very large dataset, which can lead to performance issues or exceed system limits.
Cause:
- Excessive Data Volume: The selection criteria defined in the query or report may be too broad, resulting in a selection that includes a large number of rows.
- System Limitations: SAP has certain limits on the number of rows that can be processed in a single query or report. This limit is in place to ensure system performance and stability.
- Inefficient Query Design: The query may not be optimized, leading to unnecessary data being included in the selection.
Solution:
Refine Selection Criteria: Narrow down the selection criteria in the query. This can be done by:
- Adding more filters to limit the data.
- Using specific date ranges or other relevant parameters to reduce the number of rows returned.
Use Aggregation: If applicable, consider using aggregated data instead of detailed data. This can significantly reduce the number of rows processed.
Check Query Design: Review the query design for inefficiencies. Ensure that the query is optimized for performance and that unnecessary data is not being included.
Adjust System Settings: If you have the necessary permissions, you may consider adjusting the system settings related to the maximum number of rows allowed in selections. However, this should be done with caution and typically involves consulting with your SAP Basis team.
Use Variables: Implement variables in your query to allow users to input specific values, which can help in reducing the data volume.
Paging: If the query is expected to return a large dataset, consider implementing paging to retrieve data in smaller chunks.
Related Information:
If the issue persists after trying the above solutions, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or a technical consultant who can provide further assistance tailored to your specific environment and requirements.
