  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message BRAIN185 - Data in underlying InfoProvider has changed ?

The SAP error message BRAIN185, which states "Data in underlying InfoProvider has changed," typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP BW/4HANA when there is a discrepancy between the data in the InfoProvider and the data that the query is trying to access. This can happen for several reasons, including data updates, changes in the InfoProvider structure, or inconsistencies in the data model.

    Causes:

    1. Data Updates: The data in the underlying InfoProvider (like a DataStore Object, InfoCube, or other data sources) has been updated or changed after the query was last executed.
    2. Structural Changes: Changes to the structure of the InfoProvider, such as adding or removing fields, can lead to this error.
    3. Data Load Issues: If there were issues during the data load process, it might result in inconsistencies.
    4. Query Cache: The query might be using cached data that is no longer valid due to changes in the underlying data.

    Solutions:

    1. Refresh the Query: Try refreshing the query to ensure it retrieves the latest data from the InfoProvider. This can often resolve the issue if the data has changed.
    2. Check for Data Load Errors: Review the data load process to ensure that there were no errors during the last data load. If there were issues, resolve them and reload the data.
    3. Rebuild the Query: If the structure of the InfoProvider has changed, you may need to adjust the query accordingly. This could involve modifying the query definition to align with the new structure.
    4. Clear Query Cache: Clear the cache for the query to ensure that it does not use outdated data. This can be done in the SAP BW system.
    5. Check for InfoProvider Changes: Review any recent changes made to the InfoProvider, such as changes in fields, data types, or relationships, and ensure that the query is compatible with these changes.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You can use transaction codes like RSA1 (Data Warehousing Workbench) to check InfoProviders and monitor data loads.
    • Query Designer: Use the Query Designer to modify or check the query definition if structural changes have occurred.
    • Data Load Monitor: Use the Data Load Monitor (transaction code RSMO) to check the status of data loads and identify any issues.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message.

If the problem persists after trying these solutions, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP BW administrator or support team for further investigation.
