  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message BA302 - Archiving session &1 was interrupted when total file size &2 was reached ?

The SAP error message BA302 indicates that an archiving session was interrupted because the total file size reached a predefined limit. This can occur during the data archiving process when the size of the archive file exceeds the maximum allowed size set in the system configuration.

    Cause:

    1. File Size Limit: The most common cause of this error is that the total size of the archive file has reached the limit defined in the SAP system settings. This limit is typically set to prevent excessively large files that can be difficult to manage.
    2. Configuration Settings: The maximum file size for archiving can be configured in the SAP system, and if the data being archived exceeds this limit, the session will be interrupted.
    3. Data Volume: If a large volume of data is being archived in a single session, it may quickly reach the file size limit.

    Solution:

    1. Increase File Size Limit:

      • You can increase the maximum file size limit for archiving in the SAP system. This can be done by adjusting the relevant configuration settings in transaction code SARA (Archive Administration).
      • Navigate to the archiving object you are working with and check the settings for the maximum file size. Increase the limit as necessary.
    2. Split the Archiving Session:

      • Instead of archiving a large volume of data in one session, consider splitting the data into smaller batches. This can help ensure that each individual archive file remains below the maximum size limit.
    3. Check Archive File Management:

      • Ensure that the archive file management settings are correctly configured. This includes settings related to the storage location and file handling.
    4. Monitor and Manage Data Volume:

      • Regularly monitor the volume of data being archived and manage it accordingly. This may involve scheduling archiving jobs during off-peak hours or implementing a more frequent archiving strategy.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:
      • SARA: Archive Administration
      • SARI: Archive Information System
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for detailed information on archiving objects and configuration settings.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address specific issues or provide additional guidance related to archiving and file size limits.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the BA302 error and successfully complete your archiving sessions.
