SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: ACRSL - Messages for Depreciation Keys and Calculation Methods

  • Message number: 016

  • Message text: & : Dep. after planned life end incompatible with dep. over rem. life

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

A depreciation method over the remaining useful life is only
mathematically logical during the useful life of the asset.
Transactions that take place after the useful life is expired can no
longer be depreciated using this method.
This entry makes sense only if depreciation ends during the fiscal
year, and you entered a changeover method.

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

Check if depreciation ends in the course of the fiscal year, and if a
changeover method was entered. Otherwise, change the "Rem.Life"
(calculate percentage from remaining life) indicator in multi-level
method &v2& or change the "Dep. after plnd.life end" (Depreciation
after planned life end) indicator in base method &v3&. The incorrect
entry is in &v1& (chart of depreciation, depreciation key, depreciation
    type, depreciation phase).

    1. Planned Life End: The planned life of the asset has ended, but there are still depreciation postings being attempted beyond this planned life.
    2. Depreciation Method: The depreciation method applied to the asset may not be compatible with the remaining life of the asset.
    3. Configuration Issues: There may be configuration issues in the asset accounting settings that do not align with the asset's lifecycle.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Check Asset Master Data:

      • Ensure that the planned life is correctly set and that it reflects the actual useful life of the asset.
    2. Review Depreciation Settings:

      • Check the depreciation method assigned to the asset. Ensure that it is appropriate for the asset's remaining life.
      • If the asset has reached the end of its planned life, consider whether it should be retired or if the planned life needs to be extended.
    3. Adjust Depreciation Posting:

      • If depreciation is being posted after the planned life has ended, you may need to stop further depreciation postings or adjust the asset's useful life.
    4. Consult Configuration:

      • If you have access to the configuration settings, review the settings for asset accounting to ensure they are correctly set up for the type of assets you are managing.
    5. Run Depreciation Simulation:

      • Use the depreciation simulation tool in SAP to see how changes to the asset's master data or depreciation settings will affect future postings.
    6. Consult Documentation:

      • Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on the depreciation methods and settings applicable to your version of SAP.
