  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message AA193 - Spec. dep. start date & should no longer be changed (Please check) ?

The SAP error message AA193 indicates that there is an issue with the specification of the depreciation start date for an asset. This error typically arises when you attempt to change the depreciation start date of an asset that has already been processed in the system, which is not allowed after certain conditions have been met.

    Cause:

    1. Depreciation Already Posted: The most common cause of this error is that depreciation has already been posted for the asset. Once depreciation has been calculated and posted, the start date cannot be changed.
    2. Asset Status: The asset may be in a status that does not allow changes to the depreciation start date (e.g., it may be capitalized or in use).
    3. Configuration Settings: There may be specific configuration settings in the asset accounting module that restrict changes to the depreciation start date after certain conditions are met.

    Solution:

    1. Check Depreciation Posting: Verify if any depreciation has been posted for the asset. If depreciation has been posted, you will not be able to change the start date.
    2. Review Asset Status: Check the status of the asset. If it is capitalized or in use, you may need to consider other options, such as creating a new asset with the correct start date.
    3. Use Transaction Codes: Use transaction codes like AS02 (Change Asset) to review the asset details and ensure that you are not trying to change a field that is locked due to prior postings.
    4. Consult Configuration: If you have access to the configuration settings, check if there are any restrictions set for changing the depreciation start date. You may need to consult with your SAP administrator or a functional consultant for assistance.
    5. Create a New Asset: If changing the start date is critical and you cannot do it due to the restrictions, consider creating a new asset with the correct depreciation start date and transferring the values from the old asset.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as AS01 (Create Asset), AS02 (Change Asset), and AS03 (Display Asset).
    • Documentation: Review SAP documentation or help files related to Asset Accounting for more detailed information on asset management and depreciation.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any SAP Notes related to this error message for potential patches or updates that may address the issue.
    • User Roles: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to make changes to asset records in SAP.

If the issue persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to reach out to your SAP support team for further assistance.
