  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message AA192 - Dep.start date & should no longer be changed (Please check) ?

The SAP error message AA192 indicates that the depreciation start date for an asset is set in such a way that it should not be changed. This typically occurs when you attempt to modify the depreciation start date of an asset that has already been processed in the system, which can lead to inconsistencies in financial reporting and asset management.

    Cause:

    1. Asset Already Depreciated: The asset has already undergone depreciation postings, making it impossible to change the depreciation start date without affecting prior financial records.
    2. Configuration Settings: The system settings may restrict changes to certain fields once depreciation has begun.
    3. Asset Status: The asset may be in a status that does not allow changes (e.g., "In Use" or "Fully Depreciated").

    Solution:

    1. Check Asset Status: Verify the current status of the asset. If it is in use or has been fully depreciated, you may need to consider other options rather than changing the depreciation start date.
    2. Review Depreciation Areas: Ensure that the depreciation areas are correctly configured and that you are not trying to change a date that is locked due to prior postings.
    3. Use Asset Reclassification: If you need to change the depreciation start date for valid reasons, consider reclassifying the asset or creating a new asset with the correct depreciation start date.
    4. Consult with Finance Team: Discuss with your finance or accounting team to understand the implications of changing the depreciation start date and to explore alternative solutions.
    5. Transaction Codes: Use transaction codes like AS02 (Change Asset) to review the asset details and ensure that you are following the correct procedures.

    Related Information:

    • Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation for asset accounting to understand the implications of changing asset parameters.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address specific issues related to asset management and depreciation.
    • User Permissions: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to make changes to asset records, as restrictions may be in place.

If the issue persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or a consultant who specializes in SAP Asset Accounting for further assistance.
