You want to enter a new component with material type &V1& and item
    category &V2&.
Settings in the IMG for production (Master data -> BOM -> Item data ->
Define item categories) determine that inventory management for this
item category is to be based on quantity.
However, other settings in the IMG for material type &V1& in plant &V3&
determine that the quantities are not updated in the material master.

Please check your entry for the item category.
You can enter item category <LS>non-stock item</> (no inventory
    management) for the following materials:
material with a material type that supports <LS>configuration</>
<ZH>pipeline material</>, which can be taken from a pipeline at any
    time
If you must enter this material with item category &V2&, consult the
department responsible for maintaining item categories and materials
management. The settings may need to be checked.

The SAP error message 29118 indicates that there is a mismatch between the material type and the item category in a transaction, typically during the creation of a sales order or a purchase order. This error occurs when the system does not allow the specified combination of material type and item category for the specified plant.

    Cause:

    1. Material Type Configuration: The material type you are trying to use is not configured to work with the specified item category in the context of the plant.
    2. Item Category Configuration: The item category may not be allowed for the material type in the configuration settings.
    3. Plant-Specific Settings: There may be specific settings at the plant level that restrict the use of certain material types with certain item categories.
    4. Material Master Data: The material master record may not be set up correctly for the intended use, or it may be missing necessary data.

    Solution:

    1. Check Material Type and Item Category Configuration:

      • Go to the configuration settings in SPRO (SAP Project Reference Object) and navigate to the relevant area for material management or sales and distribution.
      • Verify the allowed combinations of material types and item categories.
    2. Review Material Master Data:

      • Check the material master record for the material in question. Ensure that it is set up correctly for the intended use (e.g., sales, purchasing).
      • Ensure that the material is created for the correct plant and that all necessary views (e.g., sales, purchasing) are maintained.
    3. Adjust Item Category Settings:

      • If you have access, you can modify the item category settings to allow the combination with the material type.
      • This can be done in the configuration settings for item categories in the sales and distribution module.
    4. Consult with SAP Basis or Functional Consultant:

      • If you are unsure about making changes, consult with an SAP functional consultant or your SAP Basis team to ensure that any changes made do not affect other processes.
    5. Testing:

      • After making the necessary changes, test the transaction again to ensure that the error is resolved.

    • Transaction Codes: You may need to use transaction codes like MM02 (Change Material), MM03 (Display Material), or VA01 (Create Sales Order) to check or modify the relevant data.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for detailed information on material types, item categories, and their configurations.
    • User Exits or BAdIs: In some cases, custom logic may be implemented that could affect the behavior of material types and item categories. Check for any user exits or BAdIs that might be relevant.
