  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 26123 - Entry with "*" not allowed ?

The SAP error message "26123 Entry with '' not allowed" typically occurs when a user attempts to enter a wildcard character (the asterisk "") in a field where it is not permitted. This can happen in various contexts within SAP, such as when entering data in selection screens, filters, or other input fields.

    Cause:

    1. Invalid Input: The asterisk (*) is often used as a wildcard in search queries, but in certain fields, it is not allowed. This error indicates that the system does not accept the wildcard character in the specific context you are trying to use it.
    2. Field Restrictions: Some fields are designed to accept only specific types of input (e.g., exact values, numeric values) and do not support wildcards.

    Solution:

    1. Remove the Asterisk: The simplest solution is to remove the asterisk (*) from the input field and enter a valid value that complies with the field's requirements.
    2. Check Field Requirements: Review the documentation or field help (F1 help) for the specific field to understand what type of input is allowed.
    3. Use Alternative Search Methods: If you are trying to perform a search or filter operation, consider using other search criteria or methods that do not require wildcards.
    4. Consult with SAP Support: If you believe that the use of a wildcard should be allowed in that context, or if you are unsure about the correct input, consult with your SAP support team or refer to SAP Notes for further guidance.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Documentation: Check the SAP Help Portal or specific module documentation for details on field restrictions and valid input formats.
    • Transaction Codes: The error may occur in various transaction codes, so knowing the specific transaction can help in troubleshooting.
    • User Authorization: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to perform the action you are attempting, as some restrictions may be related to user roles.

If you continue to encounter issues, providing more context about where the error occurs (specific transaction, field, etc.) can help in diagnosing the problem further.
