The SAP error message 06898 typically indicates that there are issues related to Quality Management (QM) in the context of materials that do not have a Quality Management info record. This error can occur during various processes, such as when trying to create a purchase order, goods receipt, or during inspection lot creation.

    Cause:

The error message 06898 is triggered when:

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Create a QM Info Record:

      • Navigate to the transaction code QM01 (Create Quality Info Record).
      • Enter the necessary details for the material and vendor.
      • Ensure that the relevant quality inspection characteristics are defined.

    4. Consult with QM Team:

      • If you are unsure about the requirements for QM info records, consult with your Quality Management team or SAP functional consultant to understand the specific requirements for the materials in question.
    5. Adjust Configuration:

      • If the requirement for a QM info record is not necessary for certain materials, you may need to adjust the configuration settings in the system to allow for processing without a QM info record.

    Related Information:

    • QM Info Record: This is a record that links a material to a vendor and specifies the quality inspection requirements for that material when it is procured.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages (message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.

An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
