What is repair-based planning in SAP SCM-APO-SNP - Supply Network Planning (SNP)?

SAP Term: repair-based planning

  • Component: SCM-APO-SNP

  • Component Name: Supply Network Planning (SNP)

  • Description: The SNP heuristic is used as part of a repair-based planning process consisting of the heuristic, capacity leveling, and deployment. The heuristic processes each planning location in sequence and determines sourcing requirements. Heuristic processing lumps all requirements for a given product in the location into one requirement for the period. The heuristic determines the valid sources and quantities based on predefined percentages for each source, then passes the requirements through the supply chain to calculate a plan; however, this plan is not necessarily feasible. The planner uses capacity leveling to formulate a feasible plan. In this sense, the planner must repair the plan to make it feasible.

  • Key Concepts:
Repair-based planning is a type of supply network planning (SNP) in SAP. It is used to plan and optimize the supply chain by taking into account the repair and maintenance of components. It helps to identify the most cost-effective way to repair and maintain components, while also ensuring that the supply chain remains efficient.

    How to use it:
Repair-based planning can be used in SAP by setting up a repair-based planning scenario. This scenario will define the parameters for the repair and maintenance of components, such as the cost of repairs, the time required for repairs, and any other relevant information. Once this is done, the system will generate a plan that takes into account all of these parameters and will optimize the supply chain accordingly.

    Tips & Tricks:
When setting up a repair-based planning scenario, it is important to ensure that all relevant information is included. This includes not only the cost of repairs but also any other factors that may affect the efficiency of the supply chain, such as lead times or delivery times. Additionally, it is important to regularly review and update the scenario to ensure that it remains up-to-date with any changes in the supply chain.
