Definition: Quality Management (QM) in SAP is a module designed to help organizations plan, control, and monitor the quality of their products and processes. It ensures that products meet predefined standards and customer requirements by integrating quality checks, inspections, and audits throughout the supply chain and production lifecycle.
How It’s Used: In real SAP projects, QM is used to implement quality inspections during goods receipt, production, and before delivery to customers. For example, when raw materials arrive, QM can trigger inspection lots to verify quality before acceptance. During manufacturing, in-process inspections ensure that products meet quality criteria. QM also supports quality notifications to record defects and manage corrective actions, helping companies maintain compliance and improve product reliability.
Important Configuration:
- Define inspection types and assign them to relevant processes (e.g., goods receipt, production) in SPRO > Quality Management
- Set up inspection plans using T-code QP01 to specify inspection characteristics and methods
- Configure quality certificates and sampling procedures
- Maintain master data such as material master QM views and vendor master QM data
- Use T-codes QA01 to create inspection lots and QE01 to record inspection results
- Integrate QM with MM (Materials Management), PP (Production Planning), and SD (Sales and Distribution) modules for seamless quality control
