What is organizational release code in SAP MM-PUR - Purchasing?


SAP Term: organizational release code

  • Component Name: Purchasing

  • Description: A two-character identifier with which a person responsible for processing a document can release approve an item of a purchase requisition, a complete purchase requisition, or a complete external purchasing document, or cancel such release, that is, revoke an approval. In the case of the organizational release code, the user department specifies which user can work with which release code.

    Organizational Release Code (ORC) is a feature in SAP MM-PUR Purchasing that allows users to control the release of purchase orders. It is used to ensure that all purchase orders are approved by the appropriate personnel before they are released for processing. The ORC is assigned to each purchase order and can be used to restrict access to certain users or groups of users. 
    
    How to use it: 
    The ORC is assigned to each purchase order when it is created. It can be changed at any time by the user who created the purchase order. The ORC can be used to restrict access to certain users or groups of users. For example, if a user has an ORC of “A”, they will only be able to view and approve purchase orders with an ORC of “A”.

    It is important to assign the correct ORC to each purchase order. This will ensure that only the appropriate personnel are able to view and approve the purchase order. Additionally, it is important to keep track of which ORCs have been assigned to which purchase orders, as this will help ensure that all purchase orders are approved by the correct personnel.
