What is asset value date in SAP FI-AA - Asset Accounting?

  • Description: The value date of an asset transaction from the asset accounting point of view. The asset value date can be different from the posting date and document date, and can be in accounting periods that are already closed. However,the year of posting and the transaction year must be identical.

    Asset Value Date is a term used in SAP Asset Accounting (FI-AA). It is the date on which the value of an asset is determined. This date is used to calculate the depreciation of the asset and to determine the value of the asset for accounting purposes. 
    
    How to use it: 
    The Asset Value Date is set when an asset is acquired and can be changed at any time. It is important to note that the Asset Value Date should not be confused with the Acquisition Date, which is the date on which the asset was acquired. The Asset Value Date can be changed in the Asset Master Data screen in SAP. 
    
    Tips & Tricks: 
    When changing the Asset Value Date, it is important to consider how this will affect the depreciation of the asset. If the Asset Value Date is changed, then any depreciation that has already been calculated will need to be adjusted accordingly.
