• Description: An instantiation of a process type at runtime. Process types are described by meta information. If data is collected in local systems, transported into the central system, and the processes then reconstructed using the meta information of the process type, then what results is a process instance. For example, if meta information is used to define a process type that consists of an IDoc outbox, tRFC transfer, and IDoc inbox in the receiving system. Runtime data is used to fill this description, and the different instantiations of the process type result in the process instance. In this way, one instance may have run completely while another process instance resulted in errors due to a tRFC problem.
