What is trigger in SAP (BC-BMT-BPM - Please use subcomponents)?

SAP Term: trigger

  • Component: BC-BMT-BPM

  • Component Name: Please use subcomponents

  • Description: Indicator for the reason why an event happens, for example, a message, or an exception. The event trigger represents the Web service endpoint of the process at runtime. Event triggers can be reused in process modeling for easy and quick creation of events. Types of event triggers: Message trigger Message triggers are used for modeling message start, intermediate message, and message end events. The message trigger is created from an operation of a service interface. Escalation trigger Escalation triggers are used for modeling escalation end events in the process. Escalation end events represent a business error that occurs in the process, for example an item runs out of stock in a purchase order process. Error trigger An error trigger is automatically created together with the message trigger when there is a WSDL fault defined for an operation in the service interface definition. Error triggers are used to model error end events in the process.

  • Key Concepts:
A trigger is a type of event in SAP Business Process Management (BPM) that initiates an action. It is used to start a process or to execute a certain task when a certain condition is met. Triggers can be configured to be triggered by external events, such as a user action or an external system, or by internal events, such as the completion of a task or the expiration of a timer.

    How to use it:
Triggers can be used in SAP BPM to initiate processes and tasks. To create a trigger, you must first define the conditions that will cause the trigger to fire. Once the conditions are defined, you can configure the trigger to execute an action when the conditions are met. This action can be anything from starting a process to executing a task.

    Tips & Tricks:
When creating triggers, it is important to consider the order in which they will be executed. If multiple triggers are configured with the same conditions, they will be executed in the order they were created. It is also important to consider how often the trigger will fire and how long it will take for it to complete its action.
