  • Key Concepts:
An escape character is a character in a programming language that is used to indicate that the following character should be treated differently. In SAP, the escape character is used to indicate that the following character should be treated as a literal character instead of a special character. For example, if you wanted to print out the text “Hello World!”, you would need to use an escape character before the exclamation mark so that it would be printed out as “Hello World!” instead of “Hello World”.

    How to use it:
In SAP, the escape character is used in ABAP programs to indicate that the following character should be treated as a literal character instead of a special character. To use an escape character, you must first enter the backslash (\) followed by the desired character. For example, if you wanted to print out the text “Hello World!”, you would need to enter \! after the word “World”.

    Tips & Tricks:
When using an escape character in SAP, it is important to remember that it must always be followed by the desired character. If you forget to enter the desired character after the backslash, then your program will not work as expected. Additionally, it is important to remember that some characters cannot be escaped and must be entered as-is.
