  • Message class: XW - DART - Data Retention Tool

  • Message number: 158

  • Message text: Please correct the file path syntax and/or directory set

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

The system cannot derive a valid file path and name.
The probable reason is that the file path syntax was not maintained
correctly in the DART extract configuration (also see message
    <DS:NA.XW143>XW143</>).
Another possible reason is that the <DS:DE.TXW_VOLSET>directory set</>
&V1& contains invalid directories (file paths).

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

Please check the file path syntax and directory set &V1& in the DART
    extract extract configuration.
Please note that the file path syntax should only be maintained in the
DART configuration, and not with transaction FILE. DART imposes
additional restrictions on the file path syntax that are not checked by
    transaction FILE.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message XW158 - Please correct the file path syntax and/or directory set ?

The SAP error message XW158 typically indicates an issue with the file path syntax or the directory settings in the SAP system. This error can occur when trying to access or process files, such as when using the SAP ArchiveLink or when performing file uploads/downloads.

    Cause:

    1. Incorrect File Path: The specified file path may contain syntax errors, such as incorrect slashes (e.g., using backslashes instead of forward slashes), missing directories, or invalid characters.
    2. Directory Not Set: The directory specified in the configuration may not be set correctly in the SAP system or may not exist on the server.
    3. Permissions Issues: The user or the SAP system may not have the necessary permissions to access the specified directory or file.
    4. Environment Variables: If the file path relies on environment variables, these may not be set correctly or may not be accessible by the SAP system.

    Solution:

    1. Check File Path Syntax: Verify that the file path is correctly formatted. Ensure that you are using the correct type of slashes and that there are no typos or invalid characters.
    2. Verify Directory Existence: Ensure that the directory specified in the file path actually exists on the server. You can check this by logging into the server and navigating to the directory.
    3. Set Directory in SAP: If the directory is not set in the SAP system, you may need to configure it. This can typically be done in transaction codes like AL11 (for file directories) or OAC0 (for ArchiveLink).
    4. Check Permissions: Ensure that the SAP user has the necessary permissions to access the directory and files. You may need to adjust the permissions on the server or within the SAP system.
    5. Review Environment Variables: If the file path uses environment variables, check that they are correctly set and accessible by the SAP system.
    6. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or support for specific configuration settings related to file handling and directory management.
