  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

You entered an address &V1& generically with '*'. However, you did not
place the special character '*' last, but in &V2& position.

    System Response

    Saving/processing your entry was terminated.

    How to fix this error?

All address types (except for Internet addresses) begin with the part
of the address on the highest hierarchy level (for example, country). A
generic entry means that you do not have to specify a low part,
for example, you can specify DE 6227* as a fax routing entry rather
    than specifying each recipient individually.
Place '*' in the last position of the address or enter the addresses in
    full without '*'.
(Note: For Internet addresses, you should place '*' in first position.)

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message XS005 - For a generic address entry, '*' must be at the end (exception: Internet) ?

The SAP error message XS005 indicates that there is an issue with the format of a generic address entry in the system. Specifically, it states that the wildcard character '*' must be placed at the end of the address string, with the exception of Internet addresses.

    Cause:

This error typically arises when you are trying to define a generic address (for example, in a configuration or a settings entry) and you have not followed the correct syntax. The wildcard '' is used to represent any characters that may follow, but it must be positioned at the end of the string. For example, an entry like `exampleis valid, while*example` is not.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you should:

    1. Check the Address Entry: Review the address entry that triggered the error. Ensure that if you are using the wildcard '*', it is placed at the end of the string.

    2. Correct the Format: Modify the entry to conform to the required format. For example:

      • Change *example.com to example.com* if you want to match all subdomains of example.com.
      • Ensure that any other entries follow the same rule.
    3. Internet Exception: If you are working with an Internet address, ensure that it is formatted correctly as per the system's requirements, as the wildcard rules may differ for Internet addresses.

    Related Information:

    • Documentation: Refer to the SAP documentation for the specific module you are working with to understand the rules for address entries.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that might provide additional context or updates regarding this error message.
    • Testing: After making the changes, test the configuration to ensure that the error is resolved and that the system behaves as expected.

If you continue to experience issues after making these adjustments, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting with an SAP expert for further assistance.
