  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WXP629 - No active version is assigned to planning step &3 ?

Certainly! Here's a detailed explanation for the SAP error message:

    SAP Error Message:

WXP629 No active version is assigned to planning step &3

    Cause:

This warning message occurs in SAP when you try to execute a planning step in the Workload Planning (WLP) or Capacity Planning process, but there is no active version assigned to the specified planning step.

    • Planning Step: A planning step is a stage or phase in the planning process where certain planning activities are carried out.
    • Version: Versions represent different sets of planning data or scenarios. For example, you might have a "baseline" version, a "forecast" version, or a "what-if" version.
    • The system expects that for each planning step, an active version is assigned to work with. If none is assigned or activated, the system cannot proceed and throws this warning.

    When does it occur?

    • When executing or scheduling a planning step in transaction codes related to capacity or workload planning (e.g., CM01, CM02, or WLP planning transactions).
    • When running planning functions or reports that require an active version for the planning step.
    • During planning step activation or data processing if the version assignment is missing.

    Solution:

    1. Assign an Active Version to the Planning Step:

      • Go to the customizing transaction for planning steps and versions:

        • Transaction: SPRO ? Logistics ? Production ? Capacity Planning ? Workload Planning ? Define Planning Steps
        • Or directly use transaction CM01 or CM02 and check the planning step settings.
      • Check the planning step &3 (the number &3 will be replaced by the actual planning step number in the message).

      • Assign an active version to this planning step:

        • Navigate to the version assignment for the planning step.
        • Assign the relevant version and mark it as active.
    2. Activate the Version:

      • Ensure that the version assigned to the planning step is active.
      • You can activate versions in the version management or planning version maintenance transactions (e.g., CMV1, CMV2).
    3. Check Planning Step Configuration:

      • Verify that the planning step is correctly configured in the system.
      • Ensure that the planning step is not set to inactive or deleted.
    4. If the Version Does Not Exist:

      • Create a new planning version if none exists.
      • Assign this new version to the planning step and activate it.

    Additional Information:

    • Message Class: WXP
    • Message Number: 629
    • This is a warning message, so it may not stop the process but indicates that the planning step cannot proceed correctly without an active version.
    • Planning versions are crucial for scenario management in capacity planning.
    • Proper version and planning step management ensures accurate and consistent planning results.

    Summary:

    Aspect Details
Cause No active planning version assigned to the specified planning step.
Effect Planning step cannot be executed properly.
Solution Assign and activate a planning version for the planning step.
Transaction SPRO (customizing), CM01/CM02 (planning), CMV1/CMV2 (version maintenance)
