What causes this issue?

The three-character prepack suffix cannot be added to the generic
article number for lack of sufficient space.

System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

How to fix this error?

Contact your SAP System Administrator to implement the appropriate
BAdI.
