  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WJ218 - No class types maintained ?

    SAP Error Message:
    WJ218 No class types maintained

    Cause:

This error occurs when the system expects class types to be defined or maintained in the classification system, but none have been maintained yet. Class types are essential because they categorize classes and determine the kind of objects that can be classified. Without class types, you cannot create or assign classes properly.

Typically, this message appears in scenarios involving:

    • Classification setup in SAP (e.g., when creating or assigning classes in transaction CL02, CL01, or during configuration).
    • When configuring or using the Classification system (e.g., in Logistics, QM, PM modules).
    • When the system tries to access class types but finds none maintained in the customizing.

    Solution:

    1. Maintain Class Types:

      • Go to the SAP Customizing Implementation Guide (IMG):
        • Transaction: SPRO
        • Path: Logistics - General ? Classification System ? Class Types ? Define Class Types
      • Here, check if class types exist.
      • If none exist, create the necessary class types according to your business requirements.
      • Save and activate the entries.
    2. Check Authorization:

      • Ensure you have the necessary authorization to maintain class types.
    3. Verify Configuration:

      • Sometimes, the error can occur if the system expects a specific class type for a process but it is not maintained.
      • Verify the configuration of the relevant module (e.g., QM, PM) to ensure the correct class types are assigned.
    4. Transport and System Consistency:

      • If you are working in a development or test system, ensure that the class types have been transported correctly from the development system.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:
      • CL02 - Change Class
      • CL01 - Create Class
      • CL03 - Display Class
      • SPRO - Customizing Implementation Guide
    • IMG Path:
      • Logistics - General ? Classification System ? Class Types ? Define Class Types
    • SAP Notes:
      • Check SAP Notes related to classification and class types if the problem persists.
    • Modules Using Classification:
      • Quality Management (QM)
      • Plant Maintenance (PM)
      • Materials Management (MM)
      • Sales and Distribution (SD)

    Summary:

The error WJ218 No class types maintained means that the system cannot find any class types defined in the classification system. To resolve this, maintain the required class types in the IMG under Classification System settings. This will enable the creation and assignment of classes and allow the classification processes to proceed without errors.
