SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: WI - BPT Workflow: Messages from Info System

  • Message number: 724

  • Message text: No workflow definitions based on object type &1

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

The workflow containers of all workflow definitions were scanned for a
container element that references the object type &v1&. No element of
this kind, however, was found in any workflow container.
Note that not all object types whose functionalities are used in a
workflow definition must necessarily also have a corresponding element
    in the workflow container.
Examples of object types which are usually not represented with elements
in the workflow container, and for which accordingly no corresponding
workflow definitions can be found, are "SELFITEM", "DECISION" or
    "CHECKLIST".

    How to fix this error?

First establish the "<DS:TRAN.SWI4>Number of customer tasks and standard
tasks</>" for object type &V1& and then create a "Where-used list for
    tasks in workflow definitions".

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WI724 - No workflow definitions based on object type &1 ?

Certainly! Here's a detailed explanation for the SAP error message:

    SAP Error Message:

WI724 No workflow definitions based on object type &1

    Cause:

This error occurs when the SAP system tries to start or find a workflow for a specific business object type, but no workflow definitions (templates) exist for that object type in the system.

In other words, the system is looking for a workflow associated with the given object type (e.g., BUS2032 for Purchase Requisition), but it cannot find any active workflow definitions that are based on that object type.

    Common Scenarios:

    • You are trying to trigger a workflow manually or automatically for a business object, but no workflow has been created or activated for that object type.
    • The workflow definitions might have been deleted, not transported, or not activated in the current system.
    • The workflow customizing or configuration is incomplete or missing.
    • The object type is incorrect or misspelled in the workflow start conditions or in the program triggering the workflow.

    Solution:

    1. Check Workflow Definitions:

      • Go to transaction SWDD (Workflow Builder).
      • Search for workflow templates based on the object type mentioned in the error message.
      • If no workflows exist, you need to create or import the appropriate workflow templates.
    2. Activate Workflow Templates:

      • If workflows exist but are inactive, activate them.
      • Use transaction SWU3 (Automatic Workflow Customizing) to check and activate workflow settings.
    3. Verify Object Type:

      • Confirm that the object type passed to the workflow start function/module is correct.
      • Check the program or customizing where the workflow is triggered.
    4. Transport Missing Workflows:

      • If workflows exist in another system (e.g., development), ensure they are transported to the current system.
    5. Check Workflow Customizing:

      • Use transaction SWETYPV to check if the object type is linked to any workflow event.
      • If not, assign the relevant event to the object type.
    6. Check Workflow Event Linkage:

      • Use transaction SWEL to check if events for the object type are registered and active.

    Additional Information:

    • Object Type: This is the business object type (e.g., BUS2032 for Purchase Requisition, BUS2012 for Purchase Order).
    • Workflow Templates: These are created in SWDD and define the steps and logic of the workflow.
    • Workflow Events: Workflows are often triggered by events raised by business objects.
    • Transaction SWU3: Helps to configure and activate the workflow environment.
    • Transaction SWETYPV: Used to link events to business object types.
    • Transaction SWEL: Used to monitor workflow events.

    Summary:

    Aspect Details
Error No workflow definitions based on object type &1
Cause No active workflow templates exist for the specified object type
Solution Create/activate workflow templates, verify object type, check event linkage, transport workflows
Key Transactions SWDD, SWU3, SWETYPV, SWEL

If you provide the specific object type (the &1 parameter), I can help you with more targeted advice or standard workflows related to that object.
