  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WGDS_ENH_EMPTIES010 - You cannot exclude the base GTIN &1 ?

    SAP Error Message:
WGDS_ENH_EMPTIES010 – "You cannot exclude the base GTIN &1"

    Cause:

This error occurs in SAP Global Trade Services (GTS) or SAP S/4HANA when you attempt to exclude or deactivate the base GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) for a product. The base GTIN is the primary identifier for a product and is essential for product master data consistency and compliance processes. Excluding or removing the base GTIN is not allowed because it is the fundamental reference for all related GTINs (such as packaging levels, variants, or alternative GTINs).

    Explanation:

    • The base GTIN is the main GTIN assigned to a product.
    • Other GTINs (like packaging or variant GTINs) are linked to this base GTIN.
    • Excluding the base GTIN would break the product identification hierarchy and cause inconsistencies in trade compliance, customs, and product master data.
    • SAP enforces this rule to maintain data integrity.

    Solution:

    • Do not exclude or deactivate the base GTIN. Instead, if you want to exclude certain GTINs, only exclude the non-base GTINs.
    • If you need to change the base GTIN, you must:
      • Assign a new GTIN as the base GTIN.
      • Ensure the old base GTIN is either replaced or properly linked.
    • Review the GTIN assignment in the product master data and ensure the base GTIN is correctly maintained.
    • If the base GTIN is incorrect or obsolete, update the product master data to assign a new base GTIN rather than excluding the existing one.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction / Apps: Product master data maintenance (e.g., MM02, or GTS product master apps).
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes related to GTIN management and product master data for your SAP version.
    • Documentation: SAP Help Portal sections on GTIN management and product master data in SAP GTS or SAP S/4HANA.
    • Impact: Excluding the base GTIN can affect customs declarations, compliance checks, and product traceability.

    Summary:

    Aspect Details
Error You cannot exclude the base GTIN &1
Cause Attempt to exclude the primary/base GTIN
Solution Do not exclude base GTIN; assign a new base GTIN if needed
Related Info Product master data, GTIN hierarchy, SAP GTS compliance
