What causes this issue?

The current selected item is a new converted variant. To avoid posting
errors when creating the article master data based on the item data
, do not change the shown characteristic values.

System Response

Only as part of the single article to variant conversion<(>,<)> a
consistency check is done to make sure that for the concerned generic
article all variants use a different characteristic value combination.
If you change the characteristic value settings afterwards, this
consistency check is not executed again. If the characteristic values
are not changed in a way that ensures the uniqueness of the
characteristic value combinations, you will run into a posting error
later on when the variants are transferred into real articles.

How to fix this error?

Keep the shown characteristic values as they are or change them in a way
that ensures the uniqueness of the characteristic value combinations
across all related variants of the generic article concerned.

Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
