What causes this issue?

The merchandise category &V1& does not provide any variant-creating
characteristics. In addition<(>,<)> there are no characteristics
profiles assigned to this merchandise category that could provide
variant-creating characteristics. A generic article can be created only
if at least one variant-creating characteristic is available.

System Response

As long as no variant-creating characteristic is available<(>,<)> you
cannot enter any characteristic values for the new variants.

How to fix this error?

Enter another merchandise category that provides at least one
variant-creating characteristic<(>,<)> or that has assigned
characteristics profiles that could provide the required
variant-creating characteristics.

Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
