  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WG054 - Unit sent & cannot be converted to a single SAP unit of measure ?

    SAP Error Message:
WG054 - Unit sent & cannot be converted to a single SAP unit of measure

    Cause:

This error occurs when the unit of measure (UoM) provided in a transaction (e.g., goods receipt, goods issue, or delivery) cannot be converted into a single base unit of measure defined in SAP for the material. Essentially, the system tries to convert the entered quantity from the external unit to the internal (base) unit but fails because:

    • The unit of measure sent is not defined or maintained in the material master.
    • There is no valid conversion factor between the entered unit and the base unit.
    • The conversion factor is inconsistent or missing.
    • The unit of measure is ambiguous or not recognized by SAP.

    Explanation:

In SAP, every material has a base unit of measure (e.g., EA - Each, KG - Kilogram). When you enter a quantity in a different unit (e.g., BOX, PACK), SAP needs to convert this quantity into the base unit for inventory management and valuation.

If the system cannot find a valid conversion factor or the unit is not maintained in the material master, it throws the WG054 error.

    Solution:

    1. Check Material Master UoM Settings:

      • Go to transaction MM03 (Display Material).
      • Navigate to the Units of Measure tab.
      • Verify that the unit of measure you are trying to use is maintained here.
      • If not, add the required unit of measure and maintain the correct conversion factor to the base unit.
    2. Maintain Conversion Factors:

      • Ensure that the conversion factor between the entered unit and the base unit is correct.
      • For example, if the base unit is EA and you want to use BOX, define how many EA are in one BOX.
    3. Check the Unit of Measure in the Transaction:

      • Verify that the unit of measure entered in the transaction is correct and matches the units maintained in the material master.
    4. Use Standard Units:

      • If possible, use the base unit of measure or a unit that is already maintained and converted properly.
    5. Check for Customizing Issues:

      • In some cases, the unit of measure might be custom or non-standard.
      • Check in SPRO under Logistics ? General ? Units of Measure ? Define Units of Measure to ensure the unit exists and is valid.
    6. Check for User Exits or Enhancements:

      • Sometimes custom code might interfere with unit conversions. Review any user exits or BAdIs related to unit of measure conversion.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:

      • MM03: Display Material Master
      • MM02: Change Material Master (to add or correct UoM)
      • SPRO: Customizing for Units of Measure
    • Tables:

      • MARM: Units of Measure for Material
    • Notes and Documentation:

      • SAP Notes related to unit of measure conversion errors.
      • SAP Help Portal documentation on Units of Measure and Material Master.

    Summary:

The WG054 error indicates a mismatch or missing conversion between the unit of measure entered and the base unit of measure for the material. The fix involves ensuring the unit is defined and properly converted in the material master data.

If you need further assistance, please provide the material number, the unit of measure entered, and the transaction where the error occurs.
