  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WFEA006 - Latest end: Recipient for missed deadline cannot be determined ?

Certainly! Here's a detailed explanation for the SAP error message WFEA006: Latest end: Recipient for missed deadline cannot be determined:

    Error Message

WFEA006: Latest end: Recipient for missed deadline cannot be determined

    Cause

This error occurs in SAP Workflow when the system tries to handle a missed deadline (i.e., a deadline that has expired without the expected action being taken), but it cannot determine the recipient (user or organizational unit) who should be notified or who should take over the task after the deadline has passed.

In other words, the workflow definition includes a deadline monitoring step, but the recipient for the deadline event (e.g., escalation or notification) is not properly defined or cannot be resolved at runtime.

    Common causes include:

    • The deadline recipient rule or agent assignment is missing or incorrectly configured.
    • The organizational assignment or user determination logic for the deadline recipient is incomplete or invalid.
    • The workflow container element used to determine the recipient is empty or not filled.
    • The deadline step is configured to send the notification or escalate to a user or role that does not exist or is not assigned.

    Solution

To resolve this error, you need to ensure that the workflow can correctly determine the recipient for the missed deadline. Steps to fix:

    1. Check Deadline Configuration in Workflow Builder (SWDD):

      • Open the workflow in transaction SWDD.
      • Locate the deadline step that causes the error.
      • Verify the Deadline Recipient assignment:
        • Check the agent assignment for the deadline event.
        • Ensure that the recipient is assigned via a container element or a rule that returns a valid user or organizational unit.
    2. Verify Agent Assignment:

      • If the recipient is determined by a container element, make sure the container element is correctly filled before the deadline monitoring step.
      • If a rule or method is used to determine the recipient, test the rule/method separately to confirm it returns a valid user.
    3. Check Organizational Data:

      • If the recipient is determined based on organizational data (e.g., position, organizational unit), verify that the organizational structure is correctly maintained in PPOME or PO13.
      • Ensure that the user or position exists and is active.
    4. Check User Existence and Authorization:

      • Confirm that the user(s) assigned as recipients exist in the system and have the necessary authorizations.
    5. Test the Workflow:

      • After corrections, test the workflow to ensure the deadline recipient is correctly determined and the error no longer occurs.
    6. Use Workflow Logs:

      • Use transaction SWI1 or SWI2_DIAG to analyze the workflow log and identify where the recipient determination fails.
